Red Delicious

One time, I took a bite

Into a delicious red apple.

I was taken back by it’s perfection

The innate, intrinsic design,

No, not of the apple, but of the experience.

The sensual, beautiful, complexity of taste and texture.

Such simple things, a simple act, yet so simply, divine.

How does such a thing not strike me dead in awe.

How is it not enough for me?

The created experience designed to please?

To taste? To eat? To be satisfied?

What could define an experience as such?

And why is it common knowledge to know,

That biting the apple will never be enough?

I bet the fruit Adam and Eve tasted was tasty!

I bet it was juicy and sweet

Maybe a crisp, red delicious

(Probably not)

But it wouldn’t be enough.

Not even one bite was permitted

Yet God knew we would hunger for the whole tree

And when the fruit is all gone, we would dig ups it’s roots!

All in a search for more.

But we would search and search in all the wrong places.

Only to realize,

The roots are not where the apples grow.

God knew that one bite would never be enough

He knew we would continue to rebel

Not even one bite is what he commanded

Yet, we would finish the whole thing

And still want more.

So when will we, stop taking from the tree?

When will we see the freedom we have been granted,

To choose him or to search?

So we search and search and search

But what could we find, if even that divine, sensual, complexity

Would only leave us wanting more?

And the hardest part of it all, is when I taste that apple

It is so, so delicious

It feels like it will satisfy

But that’s the thing about satisfaction

It only asks for more.
